University of Tennessee Police Department has ordered an evacuation of the Humanities classroom building and the adjoining McClung Tower, which houses primarily faculty offices.

UTPD received a suspicious telephone call around 1:30 p.m. today and issued the evacuation soon thereafter.

UTPD requested assistance from the Knox County Sheriff’s Department and a KCSO team has responded that includes bomb experts and bomb detecting dogs. They are working together to determine if the threat is warranted.

Several hundred students and staff have left the building and are waiting beyond the established police perimeter.

A UT ALERT text and e-mail message has been issued to the campus community about the situation.

More details will be released as they become available.
