UT food microbiologist F. Ann Draughon has earned a U.S. Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring.
Draughon, a professor of Food Science and Technology in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, was one of only 10 individual researchers to receive the honor. She was recognized for mentoring women and minorities in the field of food microbiology and food science.
A member of the UT faculty since 1979, Draughon has mentored more than 50 Ph.D. and M.S. students, approximately half of whom are female, seven of whom are African American and three of whom are Hispanic. In addition, she has actively recruited and mentored traditionally under served graduate and undergraduate students and technical staff.
