Candace WhiteCandace White, associate professor in the College of Communication and Information, was recently appointed to the UT Board of Trustees to fill the unexpired term of Deseriee Kennedy, who left the university last spring.

"It is important to have a faculty perspective about issues that come before the board, and it has been gratifying to find that other board members seek out that perspective," White said. "I believe they listen and are truly concerned."

The faculty board member is also a member of the University Faculty Council, which is composed of the faculty senate president and an elected representative from each campus.
"I have been surprised at the amount of e-mail correspondence and private conversations that I have already had with other board members. I believe they seek and value faculty input. This is a very hardworking and involved board, and I am fortunate to be part of it," she noted.

White has been active on a number of Faculty Senate committees and served as the UTK Faculty Senate President in 2004 – 2005.

White received the UT National Alumni Association Outstanding Teaching Award in 2000 and won the College of Communications Outstanding Teaching Award in 1998 and again in 2002. She holds a doctorate in mass communication from the University of Georgia. Her primary teaching area is public relations with an interest in international communication. Her research has focused on how organizations and individuals use new communication technologies and on perceptions of public relations.
