This note is to confirm that the second through sixth floors of Dougherty Engineering Building will reopen on Monday, Nov. 27, and faculty will be able to enter the building as of 6 a.m. that day.

Dougherty’s first floor and mezzanine will remain closed until further notice, and labs held on those floors will be moved to alternate locations. Students should contact their instructors for more information.

In my previous e-mail I wrote that this update would come on Sunday, Nov. 26, but since repairs have proceeded quicker than anticipated, I wanted to share this good news with you as soon as possible.

Let me reiterate two notes from my previous e-mail:

While all rooms on the second through sixth floors will have been cleaned by Nov. 27, there may be certain rooms where electronic equipment hasn’t been cleaned. These rooms will be labeled at the entrance. It is important that uncleaned electronic equipment NOT be turned on. Doing so could damage the equipment.

Facilities Services photographed chalkboards, writeable bulletin boards and white boards immediately after the fire to preserve the writing on them. To get a printed or electronic version of that information on the room-by-room basis, contact Kay Ailor at utkay@utk.edu or 974-5321.

If you have questions about items within offices, labs or classrooms, disposal of chemicals or other items left in the rooms, please contact your department head.

Again, we are extremely grateful to Facilities Services and ServPro for their quick and thorough work to get Dougherty back into operation. We commend faculty, staff and students for their patience and cooperation during this unfortunate incident.
