KNOXVILLE — Dr. Mohanan (Mohan) M.K. was recently named director of UT’s Office of Graduate and International Admissions.

He began serving in his new role at UT this month taking over for Roseann Trantham, who retired last spring after nearly 40 years of service at UT.

Mohan comes to UT from Cleveland State University, where he was director of the Office of Graduate Admissions. Prior to that, he served as assistant director of the Office of Graduate Admissions at Wayne State University.

“Mohan brings an incredible wealth of experience in enhancing graduate admissions programs at large public universities. He also has a proven track record and understanding of programs to enhance and support international enrollment that will be of great benefit to our university,” said Richard Bayer, UT’s dean of enrollment services.

He was awarded a master’s and a doctorate degree in international studies from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, India, as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees from India’s Kerala University, with majors in political science, economics and history.

In 2000, while a counselor at Wayne State, Mohan conducted a six-week recruitment tour in India that led to a 132-percent increase in graduate applications the following fall. He has also authored scholarly journal articles on nuclear arms control and taught undergraduate courses in conflict resolution and the United Nations.

The UT Office of Graduate and International Admissions is responsible for processing and reviewing graduate school admission applications from U.S. residents and international graduate and undergraduate applications.
