KNOXVILLE –- Stephen Cotten, a University of Tennessee graduate student, will interact with Nobel Laureates this week while attending the second Lindau Meeting in Economic Sciences in Lindau, Germany.
Stephen Cotten Cotten, of Nashville, a graduate student in economics, is one of 50 outstanding U.S. research participants selected to participate in the event from Aug. 16-19. Cotten was chosen by the National Science Foundation.
The main objective of the Lindau Meeting in Economic Sciences is to provide an opportunity for personal interaction among leading economists and young researchers from around the world.
More than 300 young researchers from 40 different countries are expected to participate in this year’s event.
Each morning, Nobel Laureates will lecture on economics topics and then preside over informal roundtable sessions with the students. Students will join the Nobel Laureates for dinner for additional discussions.
A Web site has been set up to post daily information while students are attending the meeting. The URL for this year’s meeting is http://www.orau.org/lindauecon/.
The Web site and travel arrangements for all participants are being administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE).
ORISE is a U.S. Department of Energy institute focusing on scientific initiatives to research health risks from occupational hazards, assess environmental cleanup, respond to radiation medical emergencies, support national security and emergency preparedness and educate the next generation of scientists. ORISE is managed by Oak Ridge Associated Universities.
