KNOXVILLE – Behzad Yaghmaian, an Iranian exile living in America and professor of political economy at Ramapo College in New Jersey, will lead a discussion on the plight of Muslim migrants on Monday, March 13 at the International House on campus.
All sessions are free and open to the university community.
Yaghmaian will discuss his latest book -Embracing the Infidel: Stories of Muslim Migrants on the Journey West,- which traces the struggles of Middle East migrants battling hardships in search of new lives and opportunity in the West. He also will discuss the challenges that many Muslim immigrants face in their efforts to be absorbed into European and North American cultures.
Yaghmaian collected research for his latest book during a yearlong stay in Iran, where he worked for a local newspaper and gathered stories that illustrate the hopes, dreams and fears of Muslim migrants on their journey to the West.
Yaghmaian is an accomplished author who has written widely on contemporary Iran and international economics.
