KNOXVILLE – C-SPAN2-s new Book TV Bus will make a stop at the University of Tennessee campus on March 1 during its first nationwide tour of local libraries, bookstores and festivals.
The 45-foot bus, which promotes awareness of Book TV-s non-fiction book programming that airs every weekend on C-SPAN2, will be parked at University Center Plaza from 1-4 p.m.
The state-of-the-art Book TV Bus offers tours of its studio set, interactive demonstrations, video clips about featured authors and the opportunity to learn how a television show is produced.
The Book TV Bus crew also will film a vignette featuring three University of Tennessee history faculty members who are editing the presidential papers of Andrew Jackson, James Polk and Andrew Johnson for possible use on the show. Paul Bergeron edited the Johnson Papers; Dan Feller is editing the Jackson Papers and Wayne Cutler is editing the Polk Papers.
UT students who visit the Book TV Bus may be interviewed about the non-fiction books they are reading.
The bus will stop later that day at Carpe Librum Bookstore, 5113A Kingston Pike from 6:30-8 p.m. There, Holocaust survivor and author Mira Kimmelman of Oak Ridge will be interviewed about her books -Life Beyond the Holocaust- and -Echoes from the Holocaust.-
Book TV airs 48 hours of non-fiction book programming each weekend on a variety of topics including history, biographies, politics, current events and the media. Book TV features author interviews, readings and panels at bookstores, libraries and book festivals across the country. In 2004, nearly 1,000 individual non-fiction authors were highlighted in 2,500 hours of Book TV programming. Book TV airs locally on C-SPAN2, channel 98 on Comcast. (www.booktv.org)
