KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee Student Government Association and the Athletics Department will help the American Red Cross raise funds this week for those affected by Hurricane Katrina.

The SGA will be at the following locations from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1 and Friday, Sept. 2:

  • Joe Johnson Pedestrian Mall (near the Library)
  • Presidential Courtyard
  • University Center (back plaza)

The money will be collected each day by an SGA member and will be deposited into a special Katrina Relief Fund account set up through the Student Activities Business Office. That office then will transfer the deposits to the Red Cross.

On Saturday, Sept. 3, fans attending the UT football game will have the opportunity to drop off a donation to the Red Cross at Circle Park from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., sponsored by UT’s TeamVOLS group. Volunteers from the Red Cross will also be outside key gate locations at Neyland Stadium from the fourth quarter until after the game to take donations.

On Monday, Sept. 5, the football team will hold the second annual “OrangeAid.”
For a donation to the American Red Cross, fans will have the opportunity to get autographs from select players and coaches at West Town Mall and Knoxville Center Mall to sign autographs from 6-7 p.m.

The football team will also be selling t-shirts with the inscription “One Heartbeat” for $15 at the malls. All proceeds will go to the Red Cross’ relief efforts.

Last year the football team sponsored the first “OrangeAid,” an autograph session with Head Football Coach Phillip Fulmer and 23 players at West Town Mall. The event raised more than $870 for the American Red Cross- hurricane relief efforts.
