KNOXVILLE — David Hall, associate director of the University of Tennessee’s Center for Industrial Services, has been promoted to director of the statewide manufacturing extension and service center.

Hall, 62, will begin serving in the new position on Sept. 1.
Based in Nashville, UT’s Center for Industrial Services employs 50 people at six locations providing manufacturers with technical, educational and research services. The Center is one of four agencies that comprise UT’s Institute for Public Service.
Hall began his UT career as a field engineer in 1991, serving the Jackson region. He worked with small and medium-sized manufacturers in a 23-county region to improve efficiency, competitiveness and profitability.
In 1994, Hall helped launch and became assistant director of Tennessee’s Manufacturing Extension Program, a service sector of the Center for Industrial Services. In that role, he helped establish manufacturing extension services by using local, state and federal resources. He was promoted to his current role as associate director of CIS 1998.
Hall also has a distinguished military career in the United States Navy, retiring with the rank of Captain after 26 years. He served as the commanding officer of the Defense Industrial Plant Equipment Center in Memphis.
He has a bachelor’s in engineering from Purdue University and a master’s in business administration from Harvard University. He is also a graduate of the Naval War College.
“We are pleased that David will serve as the chief administrator for the Center for Industrial Services,” said Mary Taylor, assistant vice president of the Institute for Public Service.
“The Center is a valuable asset to hundreds of manufacturers that are the lifeblood of Tennessee’s economy. His leadership skills and unique knowledge of our customers’ challenges will ensure we provide the service that best meets their needs,” Taylor said.
Hall said he looks forward to the challenges ahead.
“The sole reason we exist is to help Tennessee generate, maintain and encourage further growth of high paying industrial jobs,” said Hall. “As manufacturing continues to evolve, we play a key role in ensuring Tennessee stays ahead of the curve to compete in a global marketplace.”
He takes on the role formerly held by T.C. Parsons, who retired from the center after 32 years.
A Bloomington, Ind., native, Hall and his wife, Priscilla, have lived in both Munford and Nashville for the past 18 years. The couple has four grown children and two grandchildren.
