The University of Tennessee-Knoxville School Psychology Program ranked third in faculty scholarship among all American Psychological Association-approved school psychology programs.

The ranking focused on faculty articles published in peer-refereed journals and was printed in “School Psychology Quarterly,” an APA journal.

The faculty in UT’s school psychology program ranked in the top 10 in total articles published. When data were converted to publications per faculty member, UT had the third most productive of all APA approved school psychology programs.

UT journal article topics included studies designed to evaluate novel procedures, to enhance learning and social emotional behaviors in educational settings and advanced theory related to identifying, preventing, and remedying student problems.

The articles reflect research related to students in grades K-12.

The UT School Psychology Program is part of the Educational Psychology and Counseling Department in the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences.

In addition to APA, the program is accredited by the National Association for School Psychologists and the State Department of Education.

School psychology professors note their scholarship is enhanced by collaborative efforts with their students.

“Between 2000 and 2004 students were co-authors on papers with faculty 108 times,” said Dr. Christopher Skinner, professor and coordinator of the UT program.

“Students assist in every phase of the research from formulating hypothesis, designing studies, and analyzing data to writing and revising papers. They are often primary authors of papers.”
