Hodges previously filled the position on an interim basis.

A professor of Germanic languages and literatures and former department head of the UT Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures, Hodges has more than 20 years of experience in teaching, research and administration.

“Dr. Hodges brings a wealth of administrative experience to the position,” UT Arts and Sciences Dean Stuart Riggsby said. “Her strong involvement in campus-wide activities is an asset to the college and the university.”

Her professional activities include serving as vice president and president of the Southern Comparative Literature Association and serving as president of the Tennessee chapter of the American Association of Teachers of German.

Hodges graduated from Leadership Knoxville’s Class of 1999 and co-chaired the development of a plan to internationalize the UT-Knoxville campus.

“During her term as interim dean,” Riggsby said, “Carolyn has proved herself highly capable in dealing with issues of tenure and promotion and in resolving personnel issues involving faculty and students.”
