Parang, professor and former interim department head of the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering (MABE), has more than 25 years of experience in teaching, research and administration.

His recognitions include the NASA-American Society of Engineering Education Faculty Fellowship and the Celanese Teaching and Research Award.

Parang also was designated a Shell Professor of Mechanical Engineering in 2000-2001.

“Dr. Parang’s outstanding background and professional experience make him well-qualified for the challenges of this position,” UT engineering dean Way Kuo said.

“I am looking forward to working with him and the rest of our administrative and academic team to meet the strategic goals that we recently have established for the College of Engineering.”

Kuo has named Dr. William Hamel, professor of mechanical engineering, as the new interim department head for MABE. Hamel’s honors include the 2004 Allen & Hoshall Engineering Faculty Award; the 2000 Moses E. and Mayme Brooks Distinguished Professor Award; and the 1997 and 2003 B. “Dr. Hamel has a long and distinguished record in the college as a teacher and a researcher,” Kuo said. “I am confident that the department will continue in a positive direction under his leadership.”
