Dr. James Moran III, University of Tennessee assistant vice president for academic affairs, has assumed the presidency of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences.

His installation as head of the 10,000-member group came Tuesday at the organization’s annual meeting in San Diego. AAFCS has worked since its founding in 1909 to improve the lives of individuals and families through education and research.
Moran, who also is a professor of child and family studies, is directing UT’s reaccredidation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
A graduate of Duke University, Moran also earned the master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and the Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University.
Moran has held several leadership posts in AAFCS, including chairing the council for accreditation and the nominating committee.
