KNOXVILLE — Rep. Zach Wamp will speak at the University of Tennessee’s Spring Commencement at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 8, in Thompson-Boling Arena.

Wamp, who represents Tennessee’s 3rd Congressional District in Congress, is the only Tennessean to serve on the House Appropriations Committee.
The Chattanooga native serves on the Homeland Security Subcommittee which funds the 22 agencies now under the Department of Homeland Security.
Wamp serves as vice-chairman of the Energy and Water Subcommittee which funds research at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Y-12 National Security Complex and the Spallation Neutron Source.
He wrote and passed legislation to create the Moccasin Bend National Archaeological District in the National Park System. His bill to replace the Chickamauga Lock on the Tennessee River was signed into law by President Bush in February 2003.
Parking for the university commencement ceremony will be available in the following areas: G-10 entering from Neyland Drive, C-17, C-18 and C-3. Overflow parking is available at any lot marked commuter or non-commuter.
About 2000 graduates are scheduled to attend Saturday’s ceremony.
A breakdown of the candidates for undergraduate degrees by college shows: 117 in agricultural sciences and natural resources; 60 in architecture; 1009 arts and sciences; 301 in business administration; 192 in communication and information; 240 in education, health and human sciences; 231 in engineering; 118 in nursing; 24 in social work; and 65 in veterinary medicine.
The breakdown of graduate degrees is: 706 masters; 80 doctors; 11 education specialists; and 147 law degrees.
Beginning this semester, students are attending separate commencement ceremonies held by their colleges, in addition to the university ceremony. College commencement events will be held on Thursday, May 6, Friday, May 7, and Saturday, May 8.
