KNOXVILLE — University of Tennessee students have developed an automobile tail light replacement that can warn following cars of an abrupt braking situation.

The deceleration-sensitive brake light illuminates normally during regular braking, but flashes rapidly during a sharp braking action.

The students developed the brake light as part of an innovative program at UT that offers a combined engineering/business master’s degree, with an emphasis on developing products and getting them to market.
