KNOXVILLE — New University of Tennessee President John W. Shumaker will participate Thursday in his first official UT Board of Trustees meeting.

As president of UT, Shumaker is an ex officio member of the board.

Monday, his first full day on campus, was spent meeting with students, faculty, alumni and employees.

He will attend board committee and council meetings Wednesday, June 26, and the meeting of the full board at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 27, at the University Club on Neyland Drive.

The board on March 5 unanimously approved the recommendation of its 10-member Search Committee to make Shumaker the university’s 21st chief executive officer.

Shumaker was a guest at the April 4 board of trustees meeting in Chattanooga during his transition from president at the University of Louisville to UT.

Shumaker came to UT after serving as University of Louisville president since 1995.

Items on Thursday’s board agenda include the fiscal year 2003 operating budget for UT and faculty tenure recommendations.

The schedule for Wednesday’s board committee and council meetings is:

*Advancement and Outreach Council, 9 a.m., Board Room, 8th Floor, Andy Holt Tower.

*Academic Programs and Planning Committee, 10:45 a.m., Dining Rooms C and D,
Thompson-Boling Arena.

*Faculty and Student Council, 1 p.m., Black Cultural Center.

*Finance and Administration Committee, 3 p.m., Board Room.

*Executive Committee, 4 p.m., Board Room.
