KNOXVILLE – A researcher in textiles and nonwoven materials has been named interim head of the University of Tennessee’s Office of Research.

Dr. Billie Collier, an associate dean in the UT College of Human Ecology, will serve as interim associate vice president of research while the university searches for someone to fill the position permanently, said Dr. Dwayne McCay, UT vice president for research and information technology.

“We’re pleased that Dr. Collier can take on this responsibility for the university,” McCay said. “Her background as a researcher and administrator will serve us well in this position.”

Collier is the head of TANDEC, UT’s Textiles and Nonwovens Development Center and teaches in the department of consumer and industry services management. Her research has focused on textile product development and characterization, and she holds several patents on processes for manufacturing textile fibers. She has a Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee.
