UT veterinary researcher receives national award

A veterinary researcher at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine has received a major national award from Alcon Research, Ltd. in recognition of outstanding contribution to vision research. Dr. Barry Rouse, distinguished professor in the Department of Microbiology, received the $100,000 research award to support ongoing research.
Rouse also received a five-year $1.3 million research grant from the National Institutes of Health to study Herpes simplex virus, a condition that affects most of the population. He is the only researcher at UT-s Knoxville campus to have three simultaneous individual investigator grants from NIH.
Rouse, a veterinarian with a Ph. D. in immunology, has been on the UT faculty since 1977.
