Knoxville – Tennessee football fans will participate Saturday in the launch of a partnership between Oak Ridge-based Internet Pictures Corp. (iPIX) and the University of Tennessee.
UT President J. Wade Gilley and iPIX CEO Jim Phillips announced a joint venture to put interactive images of the University of Tennessee on UT-s Website.
Phillips said the images are similar to a walkthrough of the campus.
“It-s put in the context of ‘a day in the life’ of a student,” Phillips said. “Two students talk with each other and interact with each other through the iPIX images, exploring the campus and highlighting the things that are unique to the University of Tennessee.”
UT President Wade Gilley said the virtual tour will have a positive impact on recruiting students to the university.
“It-s a break with the traditional way of recruiting students,” Gilley said. “With 80 to 90 percent of college-bound high school seniors accessing the Internet to research their options in higher education, this gives us an advantage in recruiting.”
A portion of the UT virtual tour will be shown on the Jumbotron at the Tennessee-Southern Mississippi game on Saturday, September 2, at approximately 7:25 p.m.
