MARTIN, Tenn. – The Ed and Carolyn Boling University Center on the University of Tennessee at Martin campus will celebrate its grand opening with a week-long schedule of activities for UT Martin students and members of the community.

The grand-opening celebration marks the end of a $9.4 million renovation project that started Jan. 14, 1999. The project increased the size of the university center by more than 25,000 square feet. Among the new amenities for the building is a 500-seat auditorium, a 6,000 square foot wellness center; and a 2,700 square-foot multifunctional meeting room.

The events get under way Sunday, Jan. 30 with a Super Bowl party and a movie marathon and end Sunday, Feb. 6 with brunch being served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the cafeteria and open houses in the center’s respective offices from noon to 3 p.m.

The following is a listing of the week-long activities:

Sunday, Jan. 30

2 p.m. – Love on the Screen Movie Marathon in the Boling University Center Auditorium (Movies to be shown include: -Up Close and Personal,- “Sleepless in Seattle,” “Pretty Woman,” and “Runaway Bride”).

3 p.m. – Super Bowl Party in the Boling University Center Gameroom

Monday, Jan. 31

– Greek Discount Day in the University Center Book Store (20 percent off all Greek merchandise in stock).

– Gateway Computer and D & H Software Representatives, Boling University Center Computer Store (first floor)

11:30 a.m. – Tom “Dr. Cue” Rossman Billiard Exhibition, Boling University Gameroom

7 p.m. – Contemporary Music Concert: Living Proof (William and Jill Donnell) will
perform in concert in the Boling University Center Auditorium. The free concert is cosponsored by the Interfaith Center

Tuesday, Feb. 1

– Student Discount Day in the University Book Store (20 percent off soft goods and novelty items only).

– Computer Store will give away a Hewlett Packard Printer

10 a.m. – Lifeline Blood Drive

11:30 a.m. – Tom “Dr. Cue” Rossman Billiard Exhibition, Boling University Gameroom

12:30 p.m. – Ribbon Cutting

3 p.m. – “The Effects of Birth Order on Personality” mini-workshop presented by Dr. Louise Katz, Room 213, Boling University Center

3:30 p.m. – Grand Opening Reception, Room 206, Boling University Center

4 p.m. – Building Tours

9 p.m. – Motivational and Inspirational Speaker Tom Flick, Boling University Center Auditorium

3 p.m. – “The Stress Quickie: Feel Better in Six Seconds” mini-workshop presented by Dr. Andy King, Room 213, Boling University Center

9 p.m. – Campus Crossfire: Debate the issues on the UT Martin campus, Boling University Center Auditorium

Thursday, Feb. 3

3 p.m. – “Fight Fair With Those Who Care,” mini-workshop presented by Dr. Jennifer Levy, Room 213, Boling University Center

3 p.m. – -Sweaty Palms: An Interviewing Workshop,- presented by Candy Goad, Room 217, Boling University Center

7 p.m. – UT Martin’s version of “Want to be a Millionaire” will be played in the Boling University Center Auditorium

Friday, Feb. 4

– Computer Store Celebrates Microtek Day

10 a.m. – “Majors and Money: Picking a Major with Money in Mind,” mini-workshop presented by Dr. Bob Beard, Room 213, Boling University Center

5 p.m. – Strongest Male/Female Contest, Boling University Center Fitness Center

8 p.m. – Winter Wonderland Dance, Duncan Ballroom, Boling University Center. This event is sponsored by UT Martin’s Office of Housing

11 p.m. – Student Activities Council Friday Night Movie, “American Pie,” Boling University Center Auditorium

Saturday, Feb. 5

– Fitness Team Challenge, Boling University Center Fitness Center

Noon – Building Tours

6:30 p.m. – Valentine’s Day Gala Dinner and Dance, Duncan Ballroom, Boling University Center. This semiformal attire event, sponsored by the Martin Rotary Club and the C.E. Weldon Public Library, will serve as a fund-raiser for the local library. Tickets are $25 each and group tables are available.

Sunday, Feb. 6

– Special Door Prize Giveaway Day in the University Center Bookstore

11 a.m. – Sunday Brunch will be served in the cafeteria by Sodexho Marriott until 2 p.m. Harpist Jordan Donley will perform during the brunch. This event is open to the community.

Noon – Building and office tours get under way.

In addition to the listed activities, Sodexho Marriott, the University Bookstore and the Computer Store have planned giveaways and other discounts for customers.
