CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — University of Tennessee architecture students will open their Design Build House II to the public from 5-8 p.m. Thursday.

The house at 1144 Pierce Street is a project of UT architecture students who designed the structure last year and built it this summer.

“The goal of the house is to demonstrate that high-quality design can be affordable,” Marleen Davis, dean of the UT-Knoxville College of Architecture and Design, said. “The design proposes a sustainable house that is energy efficient and economic, using low-cost, progressive materials in unconventional ways.”

The project is part of the school’s Urban Design-Build Studio, initiated by David Fox, associate professor of architecture.

Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprises funded site acquisition and construction, with support from Artech and TWH Architects.
