Faculty who excel in the classroom and in advising students were presented teaching awards Wednesday at UT-Knoxville.

The 1999 UT National Alumni Outstanding Teaching Awards went to Dr. Stephen Ash, history, Dr. William Hart, agricultural engineering, Dr. Christopher Pionke, mechanical and aerospace engineering and engineering science, and Dr. Daniel Ward, veterinary medicine.

The campus Teaching Council, Student Government Association and Chancellor-s Office selected Dr. Michael Fitzgerald, political science, Dr. Lawrence Husch, mathematics, Dr. Allen Yu, mechanical and aerospace engineering and engineering science, Dr. Marvin Bennett III, geological sciences, Dr. Benjamin Boone, music, and Randolph Jones, architecture, for Excellence in Teaching Awards.

Excellence in Advising Awards were presented to Dr. Melissa Groves, child and family studies, Suzan Murphy, finance, and Dr. Don Williams, ornamental horticulture and landscape design.

Graduate students cited for excellence in the classroom were Glenn Coffey, sociology, Joy Drinnon, psychology, Jo Angela Edwins, English, Joseph Hill, geological sciences, Allison Jennings, nutrition and hotel management, and Ashley McKeown, anthropology.
