In an evening filled with honors for UT students, faculty and staff, special tribute was paid to Dr. Joe Johnson, retiring university president, and his wife, Pat.
Dr. Bill Snyder, UT-Knoxville chancellor, recounted Johnson-s 38 years at the university, where “he held probably more different jobs and titles than anyone in UT history.
“Above all,” Snyder said, “Dr. Johnson has always been an advocate for students and faculty.”
For going beyond their job responsibilities to help students and co-workers, Linda Broyles, resource specialist in social work, Ashley Jarrell, customer service representative in telecommunications, and Rebecca Richmond, UT Police sergeant, were given UT Customer Service Awards.
The Best Practices Award, from the Office of Human Resources Management, was given for the first time this year. It went to the College of Law for programs that recognize staff for good works.
Monique Anderson, director of undergraduate programs in business administration, received the Angie Warren Perkins Award, given to a female staff member for excellence in her career and for being a role model for other women.
Women of Achievement Award winners were Norma Cook, associate professor of special programs, and Rosa Emory Thomas, health educator in student health services.
