Recipients of the University of Tennessee’s Sen. Herbert S. Walters Scholarships will be recognized at a dinner April 6 at UT-Knoxville.
The scholarships, named for the former U.S. Senator and member of the UT board of trustees, go to undergraduate students from East Tennessee. Sen. Walters established them for students who would supplement the grant by working while they are in college.
Approximately 25 grants of $2,200 are awarded annually and there currently are 100 Walters Scholars at UT-Knoxville. The value of the Walters Scholarship Endowment is $5.27 million.
UT President Joe Johnson is hosting the dinner. The senator’s nephew, George Herbert Prater of Morristown, and niece, Sara Louise Mott of Knoxville, will attend.
Sara Everett, a UT senior from Blountville, will speak for the scholars. Other speakers include Provost John Peters and Linda Davidson, UT-Knoxville vice chancellor for development and alumni affairs.
