NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Auto executives from around the world will meet here in May for a three-day manufacturing conference.

The New American Manufacturing Conference, sponsored by Automotive News, is set for May 24-26 at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel. Deloitte & Touche Consulting Group, Tennessee’s Department of Economic and Community Development, and the University of Tennessee are co-sponsors.

“American manufacturers play an integral role in the global automotive industry,” Peter Brown, Automotive News editor and associate publisher, said. “This conference will give us an opportunity to explore those issues and trends affecting the industry.”

Automotive News, the weekly journal of the industry, Deloitte & Touche and UT hosted the region’s first conference here last spring. Fifteen automotive assembly plants are within 350 miles of Nashville.

Commissioner Bill Baxter said Economic and Community Development is happy to join in sponsoring the conference.

“The event will bring leading decision-makers in the automotive sector here to Tennessee, and we’ll use that opportunity to make sure they are exposed to the many pro-business advantages our state has to offer,” Baxter said.

The university is serving as a clearinghouse for auto-related information in the Southeast, UT President Joe Johnson said.

“Working with Peter Brown and his staff at Automotive News on these conferences is a fine opportunity for the university to broaden its service mission,” Johnson said.
