KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The University of Tennessee is hosting a public meeting Dec. 4 on state environmental policy.

Milton Hamilton, commissioner of Tennessee’s Department of Environment and Conservation, will give an overview of Tennessee environmental issues such as management of livestock waste, park development and water quality.

Justin Wilson, chief policy advisor to Gov. Don Sundquist, will speak on how college and university research and education programs can assist in development of environmental policy.

Hamilton and Wilson are scheduled to speak during a public hearing at 10:30 a.m. in the University Center Shiloh Room. UT’s Energy, Environment and Resources Center organized the meeting.

”This meeting will provide a useful forum for discussing policy issues influencing Tennessee’s environment,” said Dr. Jack Barkenbus, the center’s executive director.

Hamilton and Wilson will field questions and respond to comments following their remarks. Barkenbus said representatives from the area’s environmental organizations are expected to attend.
