KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Lauren Smith, a freshman and Whittle Scholar from Brentwood, Tenn., will represent the University of Tennessee-Knoxville at the International Churchill Conference Nov. 5-8.
Smith was nominated to attend the conference as a student fellow by Anthony E. Gilles, assistant vice president of the UT Institute of Agriculture.
Gilles is teaching Smith in an honors course for incoming freshmen.
The conference, to be held at Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia, is sponsored by the Churchill Center.
The center is an international non-profit organization that encourages study of the life and thought of Winston S. Churchill, Great Britain’s prime minister during World War II.
Smith was class salutatorian at Brentwood High School, a participant in the Governor’s School for Tennessee Heritage, and a summer exchange student in Germany.
At UT-Knoxville, Smith is taking a double major in advertising and language and world business.
