KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A book about adult education co-authored by a professor in the University of Tennessee-Knoxville College of Education has earned a national award.

 Dr. Ralph G. Brockett co-authored, with Dr. Sharan B. Merriam of the University of Georgia, “The Profession and Practice of Adult Education.”

 The book, Brockett’s seventh, earned the Houle Award for Outstanding Literature in Adult Education, presented Nov. 12 at the annual conference of the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education.

 Brockett has been on the faculty at UT-Knoxville since 1988. He previously held positions at Montana State University and Syracuse University.

He has worked in continuing education program development for health and human services professionals and has served on the board of directors of AAACE.

 The former editor of New Directions for Adult and Continuing Education, Brockett teaches courses in such areas as adult education foundations and issues, adult learning and development, and professional writing.
