KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The master of accountancy program in the College of Business Administration at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville is ranked 8th in a national newsletter of the accounting profession.

Dr. Keith Stanga, head of the accounting department, said the Aug. 15 issue of “Public Accounting Report” also ranked the undergraduate program 18th among public and private universities.

“While rankings are not the ultimate measure of quality, they do matter to many people,” Stanga said. “I’m always happy when I see UT on a national listing of outstanding accounting programs.”

The department, which attracts some of the best students at UT-Knoxville, offers two outstanding internship programs, Stanga said.

Fifty students interned this past spring with a variety of international, regional and local public accounting firms.

In the summer, 24 students were placed in the department’s internal auditing internship program to gain experience with organizations such as Procter & Gamble, Coca-Cola Enterprises, Willis Carroon and Home Depot, Stanga said.
