MARTIN, Tenn. — Adam Clayton Powell III of the Freedom Forum is scheduled Thursday to deliver the keynote address during Media Day at the University of Tennessee-Martin.

As vice president of the forum, Powell’s responsibilities include supervision of conferences on new media and new technologies for a variety of forum audiences including journalists, media managers, educators, policy makers and researchers.

Powell will speak at noon during the Media Day luncheon in the Boling University Center at UT-Martin.

High school students, media representatives, faculty and other guests have been invited to the event, hosted by the UT-Martin Department of Communications.

Prior to lunch, high school students will spend the morning learning about the Department of Communications and its facilities. Small group sessions after lunch will include discussions of study choices — broadcast, news-editorial and public relations — offered by the department.

Also in the afternoon, media practitioners will answer students’ questions and talk about their work.

Communications scholarships will be awarded at lunch to UT-Martin students and high school students who plan to enroll next fall in communications at UT-Martin.

Dorotha Norton, UT-Martin communications professor, is chair of the event.
