KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Joe Bales has been appointed assistant vice chancellor of corporate relations at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

Bales, director of development in the College of Engineering, will continue in that position and assume additional duties as assistant vice chancellor, said Jack E. Williams, UT vice chancellor for development and alumni affairs.

“We’re pleased to have Joe Bales’ attention directed in this area (of corporate relations),” Williams said. “Joe is knowledgeable about the needs and resources of the university in addition to being well informed about the corporate sector.”

As engineering’s director of development for three years, Bales has coordinated the college’s 21st Century Campaign efforts, so far exceeding a $20 million goal by $8 million.

One of Bales’ new duties will be coordination of corporate gifts. UT-Knoxville has averaged $8 million a year from corporate giving for five years.

Bales earned the bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agriculture from UT-Knoxville. Upon graduation, he held a position in institutional advancement in the UT Institute of Agriculture.
