KNOXVILLE, Tenn.– The Knoxville Zoo’s red pandas will be featured on National Public Radio’s “Weekend Edition” Nov. 2. The program airs from 8-10 a.m. Saturdays on WUOT-FM (91.9), the University of Tennessee’s public radio station.

Nationwide, approximately 400 public radio stations broadcast “Weekend Edition.” Scott Simon, “Weekend Edition” host, did the panda story on his recent visit to Knoxville to assist WUOT with its annual on-air fund drive, which raised $158,000 for the station.

Other East Tennessee stories developed by Simon and his NPR crew are expected to be broadcast in the future, said Regina Dean, executive director of UT’s Radio Center and head of WUOT.

The Knoxville Zoo has more red pandas than any zoo in North America and has one of the world’s most successful red panda breeding programs, she said.
