MARTIN, Tenn. — Royalty payments from sales of University of Tennessee-Martin apparel and merchandise increased 20 percent the last half of 1995, UTM officials announced Friday.

Skyhawk is the new logo and nickname for UTM’s athletics teams that went into effect last July 1, replacing the name Pacers.

UTM merchandise for the six-month period sold at retail for about $178,000 — resulting in about $6,600 in royalties, compared with $5,500 in royalties for the same period a year ago.

“This confirms the Skyhawk emblem is selling and that the change was a move in the right direction,” Chancellor Margaret Perry said.

Sweatshirts, T-shirts and caps displaying the Skyhawk logo are big sellers, said bookstore director Jerry Carpenter.

Collegiate Licensing Co. of Atlanta administers the University of Tennessee’s licensing program.
