TULLAHOMA, Tenn. — The estate of the late newspaper publisher Morris Simon has given the University of Tennessee Space Institute $25,000 for a student fellowship endowment.

At a 1993 banquet in Simon’s honor, UTSI faculty members pledged more than $20,000 to establish the Morris Simon Fellowship Endowment Fund.

Moved by the gesture, Simon the next day changed his will and increased his bequest to UTSI from $5,000 to $25,000.

A $25,000 check from the Simon estate was presented Wednesday to UTSI for the Simon fellowship by Nelson Forester, past chairman of the UTSI Support Council and co-executor of Simon’s estate.

Simon, a major supporter of UTSI, for many years was publisher of the Tullahoma News.
