“The Commission’s thoughtful recommendations to enhance the quality of higher education, fine tune campus missions, give added attention to undergraduate teaching, tighten course approval, use more technology, and reduce administrative costs are in various stages of implementation and can be achieved by the University of Tennessee in its effective historical governance system. The University’s Board of Trustees, faculty and staff and administration are committed to these goals.

“The University of Tennessee has accomplished much under the present system of higher education governance and coordination. All who support UT and believe in UT do not wish to see anything fixed that is not broken.

“I do not see any reason to disrupt what is effective, admired, and respected. The governance and organization of UT should be left as it is.”
