KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Bankers Association is supporting the work of a University of Tennessee faculty member with a $50,000 pledge to UT’s 21st Century Campaign.

Fred Lawson, TBA past president and president of BankFirst of Knoxville, said the five-year pledge will fund the Tennessee Bankers Association Scholar Award which will go to a faculty member in the UT-Knoxville finance department. A portion of the gift will also go for academic projects in UT’s Financial Institutions Center related to banking.

The financial center and TBA recently completed a survey on the public’s attitudes toward Tennessee’s banks.

TBA, with headquarters in Nashville, was founded to meet the education, legislative and communications needs of the state’s commercial banks. It has 100 percent membership among institutions eligible to join.
