KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The University of Tennessee-Knoxville College of Communications has received a $21,000 gift of computer video editing systems from D-Vision Systems Inc., the world’s leading supplier of the non-linear digital system, UT officials announced Monday.
“Right now the broadcast and corporate video industries are transitioning into using digital technologies to manipulate images and to do editing,” said Evelyn Jackson, UT assistant professor who teaches the editing class.
In the D-Vision editing system, all of the video material is on the computer hard drive rather than on video tape, she said.
“The donation of the D-Vision system is not only providing state-of-the-art technology for us to teach students with, but it’s going to allow us — because it is so simple to use– to raise our level of teaching.”
UT has been designated as the authorized D-Vision training center for the eight surrounding states and will sign a partnership agreement with D-Vision Tuesday.
The dedication of the D-Vision Suite will be at 11 a.m., 253 Communications Bldg. Broadcast students will demonstrate the system.
The partnership agreement will be signed later at a luncheon at the Faculty Club.
D-Vision is headquartered in Chicago.
