KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Two University of Tennessee-Knoxville computer science professors received awards from the National Science Foundation, officials said Thursday.

Drs. Mark Jones and Padma Raghavan won top awards through NSF’s early career development program.

“The department is proud to have two award winners this year. The honor indicates the quality of (computer science) faculty assembled over the past several years,” said department head Bob Ward.

Raghavan and Jones were selected because of teaching and research plans they developed for software and algorithms used in parallel computers.

“Padma and Mark are outstanding young educators and researchers with brilliant careers ahead of them,” Ward said.

Dr. Z. Benjamin Xue, assistant professor of chemistry, received an NSF award in 1994.
