KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Thirty-six students are scheduled to join the University of Tennessee-Knoxville journalism honors society Friday at the Kappa Tau Alpha initiation ceremony.

The journalism honors program will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the College of Communications auditorium.

The program will include a talk by journalism professor June Adamson, part of the annual John Lain Lecture series. Lain is a former UT-Knoxville journalism professor from Norris.

The chapter will induct Dick Smyser, founding editor of the Oak Ridger, as an honorary member. Smyser is former president of the Associated Press Managing Editors and the American Society of Newspaper Editors.

Kappa Tau Alpha is the national society honoring the top ten percent of journalism students. Dr. George Everett, UT-Knoxville journalism professor, is the society’s national president.
