A news conference with Carl McNair — brother of the late Challenger astronaut Ronald McNair — UT Chancellor John Quinn and UT Liberal Arts Dean Larry Ratner is scheduled for 9 a.m., Monday, June 17, on the 4th floor of the UT Conference Center, 600 Henley St.

Carl McNair is in Knoxville for the start of the seven-week Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Program. Dr. Ronald McNair and six other astronauts were killed in the 1986 explosion of the space shuttle Challenger.

The McNair program encourages talented undergraduates to attend graduate school in the sciences. Thirty-five students will participate at UT-Knoxville this year.

Carl McNair is president of the Ronald E. McNair Foundation for science and space technology. UT-Knoxville’s Science Alliance will be making an announcement at the news conference relating to the foundation.

The conference will end at 9:45 a.m. Parking will be available in Hess’s parking garage.
