KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — An agricultural scientist at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville has been honored by the American Association for the Advancement of Science for his work in plant improvement.
Dr. Bob V. Conger, professor of plant and soil sciences, was one of 280 scientists chosen Feb. 19 as AAAS Fellows at the organization’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C.
Conger joined UT’s faculty in 1968. His biogenetic engineering research has helped make grasses and cereals like corn, wheat and rice hardier, faster-growing and resistant to insects and disease.
The AAAS, formed in 1848, is the country’s largest scientific organization, with more than 132,000 members from about 300 scientific and engineering academies. The organization also publishes Science, a weekly journal.
